Our aim in forming this book is to shape young child development professionals into individuals who are able to read scientific books and articles in their field, and also have good knowledge of terminology; after all they will be the ones to touch the lives of our children directly.
Since it is pretty straightforward to access any kind of academic data, our country needs young people who do not regard English as an obstacle and are able to follow the global literature in the field of child development as well as producing in their field of study.
We believe that child development professionals play a critical role since they provide social services in building relationship not only with our children but also with their families and educators. For this reason, we have compiled texts containing the terminology and basic concepts in the field of child development to bring young professionals closer to the scientific communication language which -in this case- is English.
In this context, depending on the fact that richness of English vocabulary plays an important role in comprehending the meaning in a text, we were careful about presenting high number of various vocabulary exercises. The repetition of the words learned in each unit within different exercises, enables the target words to be stored in memory over time and it will make understanding the reading texts in the next units easier. The difficulties due to the abstract and concrete words are facilitated by the variety of exercises at the end of the texts. Reading texts in our book have been chosen carefully within the framework of basic topics in the field of child development and it is aimed to teach the basic words that you may encounter in that field.
