The acquisition of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing plays a major role in the successful learning of the second language (L2) for learners. Around the world, the ever-growing significance of English language teaching has made it necessary for learners to have good communication skills in both social and academic surroundings. In order for an effective communication to take place, there is undoubtedly a substantial burden on the shoulders of EFL teachers while teaching these skills. Being aware of the importance of communication skills for EFL learners, EFL teachers need to teach language learners how to speak the target language with some fluency. However, it is a considerable fact that speaking does not of itself constitute communication unless what is being said is comprehended adequately by another person. With this in mind, a considerable number of researchers have stated that listening is an essential means of communication, and that it is an integral part of the process of hearing, understanding, remembering, interpreting, evaluating, and responding. As a significant skill which plays a fundamental role not only in communication but also in interpersonal relationships, listening has unfortunately long been given the least importance in language education. In recent years, however, with the increasing demand and attention on communication in the process of language learning, listening has been given more importance.
Considering this, learners are expected to be able to listen efficiently in order to maintain continuity in academic success. This is considered necessary, especially when they follow their lectures or want to study abroad.
